Carol Irene Haupt passed away at Tockwotton on the Waterfront in East Providence, Rhode Island, after a brief illness. Born in Joliet, Illinois to Irene (Rosenbach) and Fred Haupt, she is survived by her brother Donald Haupt, his wife Jessica, of Parkville, Maryland their daughter Deborah Banister, and Deborah’s husband Brian and sons Jordon and Jacob. She will be deeply missed by her cousins Diane (Rosenbach), Larry Jones, Judy Adams, and second cousins Donna, Robert, and Lucy, who cherish many fond memories of Carol from family gatherings over the years.
Carol, who loves reading and carrying hardcovers, once considered becoming a librarian. In the 1950s, when few women attended college, she earned a bachelor's and later graduated Summa Cum Laude with a master's in accounting from Bryant College, which made her very proud. Carol was a strong, intelligent woman who built her career despite significant barriers for women at the time. She worked hard to aspire to senior management roles at Rhode Island Group Health Association and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.
Carol became an expert in collecting, building, and repairing pendulum clocks. In her leisure time, she enjoyed international travel and was an enthusiast of driving Subaru SUVs locally.
During retirement while living on the Eastside of Providence, she frequented the Newport Creamery of Wayland Square. She relished breakfast each day with her friends, the “soupers and crunchers.”
After moving to Tockwotton Assisted Living, she appreciated the worry-free lifestyle, enjoyed varied meals, joined events, became enthusiastic about Bingo, and valued her supportive friend David Tinsley who encouraged her move.
Throughout her time at Tockwotton, Carol consistently received excellent care from the dedicated staff across assisted living, rehabilitation, and skilled nursing services. Mary Ellen Krochmal and Denise Diiorio-Javery became Carol's close friends, offering emotional support and comfort, especially in her final three months.
Funeral services will be held privately.
