Colonel Richard Gilbert Dubuque

Colonel Richard Gilbert Dubuque, age 77, formerly of Herndon, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Brightview Senior Living in Canton, MA. He was the beloved husband of Maureen Ann (O'Connor) Dubuque. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Gilbert U. and Lena M. (Alarie) Dubuque.

Richard graduated from LaSalle Academy in 1964. Upon graduation, he immediately enrolled in Providence College, where he participated in the ROTC program, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, and earned a political science degree in 1968. He returned to Providence College several years later and earned his MBA. Towards the end of his military career, he obtained a Master's in Education from Old Dominion University in Virginia.

He was a member of the Rhode Island National Guard and a graduate of the Army War College in Pennsylvania. Richard retired as a Colonel after thirty years of active duty. He was a member of the American Legion, Veteran's of Foreign Wars, and the National Guard Bureau Alumni Association.

His greatest joy was time spent with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mary E. Pelkey and her husband Ryan of New Windsor, NY; Christine A. Spindler and her husband Brian of Rockland, MA; Richard G. Dubuque, Jr. of Seattle, WA; and Robert J. Dubuque and his wife Katja of Manassas, VA; and his beloved grandchildren, Charles Pelkey, Brendan Pelkey, Clark Pelkey, Andrew Pelkey, Nicholas Pelkey, Olivia Pelkey, Sean Bratton and Zoey Dubuque.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Monday, October 23, 2023 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 901 Atwells Avenue, Providence. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Rhode Island Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Family and friends may call Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 3:00-6:00 pm in the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Fisher House Organization, www.fisherhouse.org/donate.
