He was the son of the late Rocco and Assunta (Donato) Tomassi; beloved husband of the late Arlene (Nero) Tomassi; and devoted father of Darlene J. Calise and her husband, Robert. He was the cherished Poppy of Eric Calise, Kristen Calise, Dante Calise and his wife, Michaela; great-Poppy of Alexander and Dante; and brother of the late Domenic Tomassi, Vincenzo Tomassi, and Vittoria Caspoli.
Dante Tomassi proudly served his country, enlisting in the United States Army upon graduating from high school. Following his military service, he dedicated 30 years to serving the community as a mail carrier for the East Providence Post Office, where he was known for his reliability, hard work, and friendly presence.
A lifelong and devoted New York Yankees fan, Dante rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his beloved team. Later in life, when his grandson Danny enrolled at Providence College, Dante became an enthusiastic Providence College basketball fan. He faithfully followed the Friars, cheering them on through both victories and defeats, taking great pride in supporting the school that meant so much to his grandson.
Dante will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his faithful service to his country and community, and the simple joys that brought him happiness throughout his life.
The Tomassi and Calise families would like to extend their heartfelt and sincere gratitude to Kaawa Johnson for the exceptional care, compassion, friendship, and devotion she provided to Dante over the past eight years. Her kindness, patience, and unwavering support brought comfort not only to Dante but to his entire family. We are forever grateful for the love and dignity with which she cared for him.
Visitation and funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 8:30–9:30 AM in the Pontarelli-Marino Funeral Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Mary Mother of Mankind Church, 25 Fourth Street, North Providence.
