It is with unbearable sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and Papa, David J. Grassini. Dave passed on Wednesday, February 19, at the age of 75 with his family by his side. He was the loving husband of Linda (Lombardi) Grassini. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on January 10. He was the proud father of Meggan Bailey (Chris) and David P. Grassini and Papa to Katherine, Lucca, Andrew, Viviana, Grace, and Julian. He was the son of the late John and Dora (Mottola) Grassini and the brother of Dennis Grassini (Karen).
Dave began his career as a draftsman and retired as a Structural Steel Estimator. He was proud of his service in the Army National Guard. He was a devoted New England sports fan, but was passionate about the Providence College Friars Basketball team and a season ticket holder for 40 years. Dave loved to “putter” whether it be around the house, the yard, or detailing cars. If a friend or neighbor needed a missing part or a special tool, Dave had it in his garage and was always willing to share and lend a helping hand. He was our “Mr. Fix-It.” His young grandchildren learned early on if something was broken “Papa can fix it.” Among his many hobbies, he loved spending time outdoors. From the time he was an adolescent, Dave had an unconditional love for music, no matter the artist or genre. Music was always playing. He was a communicant of St. Augustine Church where he faithfully served as an usher at the 9:30 am Sunday mass. When his children were students at St. Augustine School, Dave was an active parent volunteer in addition to coaching girls CYO basketball. He also served as an assistant girls basketball coach at LaSalle Academy for several years and continued to play recreational ball with his friends and peers until just a few years ago.
Per Dave’s request, calling hours are respectfully omitted. His funeral will be held on Monday, March 3, at St. Augustine’s Church, 639 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Providence, RI, at 11:00 am. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (panCAN.org) would be appreciated.
