Dear Carolyn,

My deepest condolences to you and your daughter on the loss of Don.  I have been following your work since leaving Providence in 1980 for Miami for a job as a clinical art therapist.  I always enjoyed visiting you and Don.  He was a sweet man and I know he is missed.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Don's passing. My children took art classes with Don at the East Side Art Center. I would say he was one of the most important teachers they had growing up. They appreciated his wit and candor, and he became a sort of presence in our household-Don-quotes were often referenced. Don gave Zoe and Max a wonderful sense of self-worth, and conveyed the idea that their work and efforts were important and meaningful. What a wonderful gift he was to all of us. He will be missed. My condolences to Carolyn and the rest of the fammily.

So sad to hear about Don’s death. Condolences to Carolyn and Eryn. Don had a profound impact on my life – literally taking a naive kid with no experience in off the street (well, I did knock first) and giving me my first job in advertising. He also let us hold our wedding reception at the Sunrise office. I learned a lot from Don (and Mike, and Carol) - how to get to the point, how to do work that matters, how to run a stat camera; the importance of having fun in the office, the value of keeping things simple, the baseline requirement to always do what’s right and fair. Most of all, he was a true mensch – wrapped in a slightly prickly veneer that was easy to pierce. (One story I tell to this day: Phone rings in the office. Don picks up. He grabs a pencil and random piece of paper and starts jotting down notes, nodding, saying “uh-huh..uh-huh.” Then he puts his pencil down, just nods, and says “Oh, you want it done *professionally*? Let me give you a number to call.” And he did, for one of the big agencies downtown.) He was one of a kind. May his memory be a blessing. 

So sorry to hear of Don's death. Mostly when I think of him, I think of the laughter at Sunrise as Don, Bob, Michael I created ad campaigns - some of which got us great new clients, some  of which landed with a thud and puzzled responses.  But even then we laughed. 

I'm sad for his wife and daughter and their loss.

Donald was my partner and best friend for many decades, the one who inspired me to take a different path , to believe in myself.  Someone who was always there for me and for everyone else. Stubborn, fiercely principled, unflappable under enormous stress, Don was the creative glue that made going to work every day a joy. I will miss him and love him forever! My heart goes out to you, Carolyn and to everyone who loved Donald. He will be missed!

My condolences to Don’s family.  I got to know him when my son took classes at the East Side Art Center many years ago.  May his memory be a blessing.

Don was my drawing teacher for over a decade and I enjoyed his instruction very much. In addition to drawing I learned about jazz and an eclectic selection of popular music. Over the years we became friends, sharing joys and sorrows, and I met several women whom I will continue to hold dear. I shall miss him terribly. My deepest sympathy to Don’s family.

 Sorry to hear about Donald’s death.  He was a wonderful artislt,and hee accomplished beautiful art with his studentrs.  He willl be missed by many
