

Joseph C. Flynn, M.D., Retired Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy, 74, of North Kingstown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol. He was the beloved husband of Dianne E. (Rich) Flynn. They were married for forty-eight years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Dr. Joseph C. and Eveline V. (Lynch) Flynn. Doctor Flynn was a private practice OB-GYN at Kent County Hospital, retiring in 1998. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and reserve duty. Joseph was a graduate of the Assumption School, LaSalle Academy, Providence College, and Loyola Medical School. He was a high school diving champion, Eagle Scout, and lifeguard at Bonnet Shores and Yawgoog Boy Scout Camp. He was a member of ACOG, RIMS, NEOGS and diplomate of the ABOG. He was a member of Potowomut Golf Club, Quidnessett Country Club, and Bear Lakes Country Club. He served as a president of the Friendly sons of St. Patrick and was an avid cruciverbalist. Besides his wife, he leaves his four children, Joseph Flynn, of Brooklyn, NY, Michael Flynn, and his wife Celia, of Tampa, FL, Kathleen Flynn, of Warwick, and Sean Flynn, and his wife, Deanna, of Coventry; two brothers, Gary and Christopher Flynn; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the dear brother of the late Raymond Flynn and the late Maureen Lawson. His funeral will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 8:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt. 117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, in Saint Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick. Interment with military honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours, Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 4-7pm.
