Gwendolyn Marguerite Hames

WARWICK - HAMES, Gwendolyn M., 80, passed away Saturday at her home. She was the beloved wife of William J. Hames (Ret. Sgt. Prov. PD). They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on November 6th. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late Thomas L. and Catherine M. (Conway) Martin. The family moved to Rhode Island before she reached the age of two and settled in Washington Park. She had lived in Warwick for the past 27 years. Gwen was a gifted artisan and with her late sister Marjorie, they displayed their wares in many arts and crafts shows throughout New England. For a time she ran her own arts and crafts shop, "Creative Hands" in Warwick. Besides her husband, she leaves her son, Martin F. Hames (Ret. Major Prov. PD) of Cranston; two sisters Marion J. Sherman of Warwick and Dorothy Saglio of Rumford; four brothers Donald Martin of Cranston, James Martin of New Port Richey, FL Raymond Martin of Hudson, FL, and Kenneth Martin of Warwick; her former daughter in law Karen P. Hames of Cranston, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late William J. Hames II, and Thomas L. Hames, grandmother of the late William J. Hames, III, and sister of the late Leo T., and Robert W. Martin, Marjorie E. Crossman and Barbara A. Ciesynski. Her funeral will be Wednesday at 8:45am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Benedict Church, 135 Beach Avenue, Warwick. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery.
