Helen G. Unwin

Helen was born December 17, 1930 in Newark, NJ and she was the daughter of Adelard and Gertrude Gabois. Helen married Earl Gardner Unwin on June 14, 1952 in New Bedford, MA. After Earl served in the Air Force in NC they move to Brookfield, CT and together they raised five children. She proudly hung a sign over her door “Unwin’s Funny Farm” and she loved having her house filled with children and she was “Nana” to many in her community.

Helen resided in St. Elizabeth’s Nursing in East Greenwich, RI for over 9 years. She was always cheerful and she was never held back by her trying health conditions.

Helen is survived by her eldest daughter Wendy and her husband Jeff Craw (Coventry, RI) and Wendy’s sons; Christopher, Sean and Greg Matta, and great grandson Will; Helen’s eldest son, Steven Unwin, his wife Betsy (Niantic, CT) and his two children Taylor and Jake; son, David Unwin and his wife Starr (Danbury, CT) and their son Shane; her youngest son, Tom Unwin (East Greenwich, RI) and her youngest daughter, Pamela and her husband Andrew Barkley (East Greenwich, RI) and their two children, Holton and Avery.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday July 9th at 10 am at the Brookfield Congregational Church – 160 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT 06804. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Home One Saint Elizabeth Way, East Greenwich, RI 02818.
