
Henry F. Izeman, MD, FACP, 79, of Bristol, passed away Friday January 6th. Born February 20, 1932 in Providence, son of the late Nathan and Celia (Silverman) Izeman, Dr. Izeman was a lifelong Rhode Island resident. He was the cherished husband of Paula (Adelson) Izeman for 55 years.
He was the devoted father of Susan Izeman (Mason Douglas), of NY, NY; Edward Izeman (Lisa Bertrand) of Providence and Mark Izeman (Tanya Khotin), of NY, NY; and beloved grandfather of Leah Douglas, Seth Douglas, Alexander Izeman, and Mikhail Izeman.
Dr. Izeman graduated from Classical High School, Brown University, Phi Beta Kappa (1954) and from Tufts University Medical School (1958). He did his internship and residency at Rhode Island Hospital, Buffalo General Hospital, and Georgetown University. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Izeman was on the staff of the Miriam and Rhode Island Hospitals. He served as President of the Miriam Hospital Staff Association, and was Clinical Associate Professor Emeritus Brown Alpert Medical School, and was one of the earliest Board-certified Geriatricians in the state of Rhode Island. Dr. Izeman also served as Medical Director of Oak Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the Jewish Home for the Aged.
The funeral will be held on Monday, January 9 at 11 a.m. at Temple Habonim, 165 New Meadow Road, Barrington, followed by a burial at Lincoln Park Cemetery. The family will sit shiva at his late residence at North Farm on Monday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dr. Izeman’s name to the Geriatrics Program at Brown Alpert Medical School or to Nursing Education at the Miriam Hospital.
