

Hope V. Ahern, 87, formerly of Carleton Street, died peacefully Sunday morning, surrounded by her loving family, at Kent Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Ahern, Sr.Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Leo J. and Mary (Murphy) Miller, she was a lifelong Providence resident.Hope was a telephone operator in the Classified Advertising Department of the Providence Journal Company for many years, retiring in 1989. Previously, she worked as a telephone operator at City Hall Hardware for ten years.She was a longtime communicant of Saint Patrick Church, Providence, a member of the Mount Pleasant Senior Citizens, and the Providence Newspaper Guild.Hope leaves a son, John J. Ahern, and his wife Frances S. Ahern; a daughter, Mary Ellen Panzini, and her husband, Steven J. Panzini; three loving grandchildren, Colin P. Ahern, John A. Ahern, and Mary Jane Ahern; and many treasured nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her beloved son, William J. Ahern, a brother, Leo J. Miller, and two sisters, Marguerite Cunnion and Ann Mortoro.The funeral will be held Thursday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Patrick Church, 244 Smith Street, Providence. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Wednesday, 5 - 8 pm.
