

PawtucketJames F. Cotter, 65, of Pawtucket, Rhode Island passed away on Monday, November 6th. He was born March 7, 1952, the son of the late John and Margaret Cotter. Jim grew up in Cranston, where he was a highly accomplished athlete. He was an All-State football player and All-Class baseball player at Bishop Hendricken High School. He also played for the state-champion Shields Post American Legion baseball team. He was a captain of the University of Rhode Island football team, where he was a member of the Phi Mu fraternity. After graduating from URI, Jim taught at Bishop Hendricken. He later returned to URI to earn his master's degree in accounting. He also had a master's degree in taxation from Bryant University. He worked for Dittmar, McNeil & Ferolito CPAs, Teknor Apex, Textron Financial and Gilbane Building Company.He was married to Nancy (Krause) Cotter of West Warwick. He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn, of San Francisco. He was predeceased by his son, Justin. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Steve and Carol Cotter of Killingly, Conn.; Jack Cotter of South Kingstown; Timothy and Betty Cotter of Wakefield; Paul and Jane Cotter of Rumford; and David and Lori Cotter of East Longmeadow, Mass. He was deeply loved by his nieces and nephews. Jim enjoyed spending time with family and friends, telling stories of growing up in Edgewood, rooting for his beloved New York Jets, reading every newspaper he could get his hands on, doing multiple daily crossword puzzles, and going to the theater. He was proud to be called a liberal.Funeral arrangements: visiting hours will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 11th, in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd, (Rt117) Warwick, RI 02886. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue (muttville.org/donate) in San Francisco, in honor of his daughter, Carolyn Cotter.
