Joanne Viccione Bucki Mazzotta

Joanne Viccione Bucki Mazzotta, a beacon of unwavering love and boundless creativity, passed away peacefully on November 28th, leaving behind a legacy woven from the threads of family, passion, and triumph.

Born on March 16, 1950, in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Nascenzio Viccione and Victoria (Georgio) Viccione.

Joanne’s life was a testament to the power of love, as she often said, “Love is all that matters,” and embodied those words in every moment of her life.

Joanne cherished her marriage to the late Joseph D. Mazzotta, a union marked by deep companionship and devotion. She also embraced life’s greatest blessing—the gift of four children—with Richard H. Bucki, who remains to honor her memory. She was an extraordinary mother whose boundless love, dedication, and gentle care enriched the lives of her cherished children. She leaves behind her daughter Carolynn and son (in-law) Jeff Lowe, along with her daughter Mary Choquette. She was predeceased by her beloved sons, Daniel R. Bucki and Richard P. Bucki. She also leaves her siblings, Diane Longwill, Bernadette Mastascusa, Michael Viccione and his wife Terry, Albert Viccione. Joanne is predeceased by her brother Daniel Viccione and her sister Lucille Romanelli.

Nothing brought her greater joy than her family, and her cherished role as “Nawny” to her adored grandchildren—affectionately known as her “Weebles”—who were the light of her life.

She is survived by Jade and Melody Lowe; Kayla Bucki; Morgan and Alec Bucki; and Cassidy, Caitlin, and Abby Choquette, each who held a very special place in their Nawny’s heart.

Joanne was a passionate reader and self-taught intellect, writer, and fine artist; she excelled in everything she set her mind to. Her proudest role in life was that of being a Mom; a title she embraced with an abundance of love. She shared her beautiful heart through the kitchen, mastering the art of amazing Italian cooking and carrying forward her own mother’s cherished tradition of meatballs on Sundays; always with special “meatball pops” for her cherished "Weebles". As the owner and operator of five successful restaurants, she touched countless lives along the way, bringing great food and good cheer to family, friends, and patrons alike.

Joanne’s creativity extended far beyond the kitchen, reflecting a spirit whose imagination knew no bounds. She published three books, the most treasured of which is “Notes to My Children”, where she shares tender reflections and maternal words of wisdom to her children. She found another outlet for her creativity in painting, where she expressed herself with beauty and grace. Music was another gift she shared, filling her home with self-taught piano melodies and heartfelt songs for her children and grandchildren. In every endeavor she pursued, Joanne succeeded with brilliance and determination, but her greatest victory was in the realm of love, where her heart of gold touched everyone who was privileged enough to cross paths in life with Joanne.

Joanne’s spirit will live on in the memories of those who loved her, a constant reminder that love truly is "all that matters".

Visiting hours in the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, RI will be held Wednesday, December 3rd from 4:00-6:00 pm followed by her funeral service at 6:00 pm.

Burial in Saint Ann Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to HopeHealth Hospice & Palliative Care and the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
