

John "Jacko" Dickinson (PFD RET) passed away unexpectedly on May 23, 2013 at Roger Williams Medical Center. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Albert and Nellie (Pickvance) Dickinson. Following graduation from Mt. Pleasant High in 1948, he was employed by McCloud Optical Co. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps and proudly served as a Buck Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, he joined the Providence Fire Dept and retired in 1986 after 32 years of service. John loved dogs and until his later years, always had a loving and devoted Golden Retriever by his side. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and watching live greyhound racing at the former Lincoln Park. He is survived by his sister Margaret Skenyon, a nephew Stephen Skenyon and his wife Barbara, and their two children Sabrina and Scott all of South Windsor, CT. He also leaves many cousins and other relatives in England and Wales, UK. John will be missed by many friends at Twin River. At his request, all funeral services will be private.
