John Joseph Monk

John J. Monk, 77, of Coventry, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Joan M. (Reilly) Monk. They had been married for 53 years.Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John J. Monk and Jennie (Cwalina) Pidgeon, and step- son of the late Webster M. Pidgeon.Prior to retirement, he worked for the Ciba Geigy Chemical Company as a supervisor in the Shipping/ Receiving Department, for over 30 years. He had been a coach for the Coventry Pop Warner football league and the Coventry Little League for many years. John was also a volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America. He loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter. He also served his country proudly in the United States Navy.Besides his wife, he leaves his four sons, John J., and his wife, Dianna, of Cookeville, TN, Robert M., William J., and Steven J. Monk, all of Providence; two daughters, Doreen A. Puopolo, and her husband Scott, of South Royalton, VT, and Maureen A. Marchand, of Weeki Wachee, FL; and five beloved grandchildren, Austin and Janina Monk, and Joshua, James, and Rachel Puopolo.John's funeral will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 8:30 am, in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rt. 117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, in Saints John and Paul Church, 341 South Main Street, Coventry. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, 5-8pm.
