

Providence JUDGE, Josephine V. 88, of Smith Street, Providence, died peacefully on August 29th at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. She will be missed by all who loved her and with whom she shared her life.Born in Providence, Jo was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Delia F. (Leyden) Judge and the sister of the late Mary E. Mattis and John J. Judge.She is survived by her sister, Anna R. Whitehead, and her beloved nieces and nephews, William and Marlene Mattis, Robert and Noreen Mattis, Charlotte and Vincent Sharkey, John Mattis, John "Jack" and Colleen Judge, Joseph Judge and Joanne D'Adamo, Carolyn Grapel, Vincent and Maria Whitehead, and Clifford and Marybeth Whitehead. Jo found joy and pride in her twenty-three grand nieces and nephews and her seven great grand nieces and nephews.Jo treasured her lifelong friendships with Norah Mulcahy and her cousins, Kathleen Corry, Rita Hall, Esther Gorrie, and Helen Salois.Jo was a member of the first graduating class (1936) of St. Patrick High School. She was an enthusiastic reader with an interest in the arts, literature and current events. Her intellectual curiosity and lifelong pursuit of knowledge was an inspiration to her family and friends.During her working career Jo was employed as a bookkeeper and office manager at General Electric, Ward Bakery and Speedway Distributors for twenty-five years, retiring in 1998.Her funeral and visitation will be Tuesday, September 4th at 9:30 am, in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Augustine Church, Mount Pleasant Avenue. Burial will be in Saint Francis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 169 George Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860 in her memory will be appreciated.
