

Lena Ann Dyer, 86, of Cranston, left this world peacefully on January 12th, 2016 in the company of her family at Roger Williams Hospital. Lena was an achiever. She was an All Star basketball player at Highland High school in Gastonia, NC where she graduated. She received a scholarship to attend music school, but she chose to marry and raise a family instead. Lena worked as a Homemaker over 40 years. She played the piano and sang in the Church Choir and the RI Civic Choral. She learned to read piano music in her 60’s. Lena loved puzzles: 3D’s and many different zig-zaws that had to be 500 – 2000 pieces. She was very creative with her plants and with life in general.
Lena was the daughter of the late Albert and Daisy Williams on June 27, 1929 in Gastonia, North Carolina. She was the second to the youngest of 7 children and was preceded in death by her brother: Albert Williams Jr.; sisters: Jeanette Littlejohn, Ruby Crank, Elizabeth Baker, and Harriet Hall. She has one surviving sister, Helen Hannah.
Lena was married to her late husband, Thomas C. Dyer, Sr. and together they had 7 children: Judith A. Dyer (deceased), Thomas C. Dyer Jr., Margaret L. Royster-Jones, Debra E. Dyer, Robert M. Dyer, Estina C. Dyer (deceased), and Paul H. Dyer. Lena leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial service will take place on Saturday the 23rd at 10:30am in the Beneficent Congregational Church, 300 Weybosset St., Providence, RI. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Providence.
Lena’s love will be deeply missed by family and friends.
