Providence: McGarry, Leo V., 90, of Providence passed away on the 25th of July, 2013 after a brief illness. He is survived by his sister, Kathryn McGarry, with whom he lived.Born in Providence, son of the late Francis and Delia (Smith) McGarry, he lived in the city his whole life. He was the brother of the late John J. McGarry, Francis B. McGarry, Raymond McGarry and Marguerite Bracq.Mr. McGarry was a machinist for 40 years. He was employed with the N.Y.N.H & HTFD Railroad, later known as the B&M, and finally as Amtrak.He was a WWII veteran serving with the 86th Black Hawk Infantry Division in both France and Germany, and later deployed to the Philippines.He was a 1942 graduate from Mt. Pleasant High School where he was a manager of the baseball, hockey and basketball teams. He was also an avid bowler, participating in several adult leagues. His passion for sports continued throughout his life.Besides his sister, Mr. McGarry leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their children. At the family's request there will be a private funeral and burial at Saint Ann Cemetery in Cranston.
