PAKULA, LEWIS, 65, died October 1, 2012. He was the husband of Susan (Berry) Pakula. Born in The Bronx, NY, the son of the late Jack and Fan (Baxter) Pakula, he had been a resident of Providence since 1973. Prof. Pakula was the former Chairman of the Mathematics Department at the University of Rhode Island and a devoted teacher. He was a member of Temple Emanu-El. Besides his wife he is survived by his children, David Pakula and his wife Hope Van Sciver of San Francisco, Nathan Pakula of California, and Maggie Pakula of Chicago. Funeral services will be held Wed, October 3rd at 9:30 AM at Sugarman-Sinai Memorial Chapel, 458 Hope St., Providence with burial in Lincoln Park Cemetery, Warwick. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice. The family will receive visitors at his late residence on Thur from 7-9 PM.
