Lorraine Marie Brown

Lorraine M. Brown, 63, of Providence, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital.Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Annie M. Brown.Lorraine was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Class of 1971 and served as the student body President. After graduation, she attended Rhode Island College, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree and then graduated from Georgia State University with a Master's degree in education. She taught first grade at Harry Kizirian Elementary School in Providence for 29 years, retiring in 2012. Lorraine was an outgoing community person who was loved by many. She was an advocate for literacy and enjoyed teaching children how to read.Miss Brown leaves her three siblings, David B. Brown and Karl D. Brown, both of Providence, and Vanessa M. Brown, of Temple Hills, MD; her three nephews, Tywon (Tonya), Jervon (Tasha),and Jarred Brown; grand nephews, Dymell, Xavier, Jervon and Lennox and grand nieces, Meelah and Secara; a god son, Keith Harrison; and a host of loving family and friends. She was the sister of the late Darlene M. Brown. Lorraine's funeral will be held on Tuesday, at 8:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Funeral service will be at 10:00 am, in Mount Hope Community Baptist Church, 734 Hope Street, Providence. Committal prayers will follow in the Chapel of Hope and Memory in Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence. Interment will be private.
