Born in Armenia, she was the daughter of the late Markar and Gardar (Balian) Shahinian.
Peggy worked for Leesona Corp for over 40 years before retiring. She also served on the Board of Licenses and with the Housing Authority for the City of Providence for many years and was also active in many of the city’s political fundraisers.
She was the beloved aunt of Carolyn Haroutunian and her late husband Richard, Leo Tahajian and his wife Elvira and David Tahajian and his wife Catherine and great aunt of Leo, Zachary, Talin, Sarah and Gillian. She was also the sister of the late John Shahinian, Susan Lewis and Sarah Tahajian.
Her visitation and funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM in Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Church, 70 Jefferson Street, Providence followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM. Graveside burial to follow in Swan Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peggy’s name to St. Jude’s Children Hospital at www.stjude.org.
