

Maria "Elena" Garcia, 67 of Providence, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Massachusetts General Hospital with her daughter and two granddaughters by her bedside. She was the beloved wife of Ciriaco "Samuel" Garcia for almost 50 years. Born in Santa Rosa Barberena, Guatemala, she was the daughter of Gregoria (Morales) Tis and the late Alejandro Tis. Maria was a machine operator for Schoolhouse Candy Company for over twenty-five years. Afterwards, she went on to establish her own cleaning business where she excelled at service and commitment to her clients. Maria, better known as "Yaya" was a hard worker and an excellent cook until her final days. In addition to her husband Samuel, she leaves a daughter, Mayra Alabi; a son, Marlon Garcia; five brothers; two sisters; eight loving grandchildren: Stefanie, Marlon, Tijani, James, Milan, Marielle, Maysun and Benjamin; four loving great-grandchildren: Kaylee, Kalista, Elijah and Riley; as well as two nephews: Mark, Caesar, and a niece, Isalia to which she took guardianship after the passing of their parents. The Funeral Service and visitation will be held Thursday evening, July 10, 2014, from 5 - 7 pm, in the Russell J.
