

WARWICK Marshall C. Battey, 87, of Warwick, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Jane Allison (St. Germain) Battey, for 61 years. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late William and Viola (Church) Battey. A lifelong resident of Edgewood, he was a graduate of Cranston High School and attended Roger Williams Junior College and Syracuse University, NY prior to graduating from Brown University. An industrial engineer, he worked for C.I. Hayes, Cranston, followed by Sargeant and Wilbur, Inc., Pawtucket, before starting his own business, Delta-Therm Engineering Corporation, Providence in 1964. Following four years of active duty in the United States Air Force, he served in the Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He was a member of the Rhode Island Shriners Scottish Rite and was a 32 degree Mason. He was a member of the Edgewood Yacht Club, the Bonnet Shores Beach Club, the Providence Jewelers Association, and the Manufacturers of Jewelry and Silversmiths Association. He was past chairman of the Rhode Island chapter of the American Society of Metals. He was a former Board member and Honorary Life Member of The University Club. He enjoyed summers at the beach in Bonnet Shores, and vacationing in Provincetown, MA, as well as February vacations to St. Thomas, and frequenting Twin Oaks Restaurant, Cranston. He was an avid squash racquets player and served as President of the Rhode Island Squash Racquets Association. Besides his wife Jane, he is survived by two sons; Michael A. Battey, DPM and his wife Susan, Gregory C. Battey (deceased wife Sheila), and a daughter Linda J. Maintanis, and her husband James; as well as nine grandchildren, Alexa, Michael, Jordan, James, Gregory, Krista, Marshall, Heidi, and Geoffrey; and twelve great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jared, Aimee, Rachel, Colin, Aidan, Alexander, Haley, Sebastian, Giuliana, Grace, and Eloise. He is also survived by a brother William H. Battey, of South Carolina, and a sister-in-law Martha Davids and her husband Dr. Anthony Davids. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Robert O. Battey. He had several nieces and nephews. At the request of the family, Marshall's funeral and burial services are private and calling hours will be respectfully omitted.
