A great deal of appreciation is extended to Smithfield Fire and Rescue and the medical and support staff of Miriam Hospital including their chaplain and Fr. Ed Pieroni of St. Raymond’s parish. They all contributed to making this transition into Eternal Life a solemn and dignified occasion.
No stranger to the medical community, Mary dedicated 40 years of her life ministering to patients as a nurse, including the last ten years of her career as a Hospice nurse. She received numerous awards and accolades for her dedication and commitment to those in need of this ministry.
That same warmth and compassion carried over into her personal life. She was considered a “second mom” to her nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She will be greatly missed at the family gatherings that occur throughout the year.
Her social network included many lifelong friends that dated back to elementary school including her “sisters” Gloria and Karen, the ‘Roc’s’ of each other’s universe.
She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Florence (Radican) Dempsey, and her siblings Joseph, John and Michael. She leaves one surviving brother, James (Catherine) and her nieces and nephews including Ben, John, James (Racquel), Chandra (Josh), Daniel (Sara) and Jennifer; her grandnieces and grandnephews include Samuel, Ronald, Jake, James-Paul, Brooke, Riley, Miles and Owen.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 11:00 AM in St. Raymond’s Church, 1240 North Main Street, Providence. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mary’s memory to HopeHealth Hospice, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
