Mary Frances (Conroy) Hasenfus

HASENFUS, MARY FRANCES (CONROY), 92, of Trinity Parkway, Providence, died peacefully surrounded by her family on April 22, 2014. She was the wife of the late Clement J. Hasenfus.Mrs. Hasenfus was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on March 27, 1922, the daughter of the late William M. Conroy, and the late Mary G. (Mahoney) Conroy. She was educated in the Betsy B. Winslow School, and Holy Family Grammar and High Schools in New Bedford, and Sacred Hearts Academy in Fall River. She earned her A.B. in mathematics from Rosemont College, Rosemont, Pennsylvania; and her A.M. in mathematics from The Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C.Mrs. Hasenfus taught mathematics at Immaculata Junior College, Washington, D.C.; Tisbury High School, Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts; Sacred Hearts Academy, Fall River, Massachusetts; and the Henry Barnard School and in the Department of Mathematics at Rhode Island College.In addition, Mrs. Hasenfus was a leader for the Girl Scouts in Martha’s Vineyard and the Cub Scouts in Providence. She volunteered in the mathematics department at Saint Francis Xavier Academy in Providence. She was a member and president of the Rhode Island College Faculty Wives. A Communicant of The Church of Saint Augustine, Providence, she was a member of its Rosary and Alter Society and taught in its Confirmation preparation program.Mrs. Hasenfus is survived by her children: William A. Hasenfus, James C. Hasenfus, and Louise M. Hasenfus all of Providence. She was the sister of the late William M. Conroy, Jr. of Strafford, New Hampshire.Visiting hours will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on Sunday, April 27, 2014. The funeral will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 9:00 AM from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in the Church of Saint Augustine, 639 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
