

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late O. George and Lucy R. (Conca) Celona.
Matt was a shell fisherman for many years before retiring. He also served in the US Army during the Vietnam era. He was one in a million, there was no one else like him. He was a “Jack of All Trades” and could fix anything. He was a huge animal lover, an avid hunter, great mechanic and enjoyed antiquing. He spent his summers participating in motorcycle trials and camping on Prudence Island with his family.
He was the loving father of Brenda Celona, Robin Monson and her husband Brian, Thomas Celona and his wife Amy and the late Roberta Dickenson; grandfather of 8 and great grandfather of 5. He was also the brother of Elaine Balassone and her late husband Michael, Doris Ead and her late husband David and Lucille Valliere and her husband Paul.
Visitation and funeral will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 9:30am to 11:00am in the PONTARELLI-MARINO FUNERAL HOME, 971 Branch Ave., Providence followed by a service in the funeral home at 11:00am. Burial to follow in St. Ann Cemetery.
