

East Providence Michael V. O'Brien, 58, of Bay View Avenue, died Sunday, August 7, 2016, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Elaine G. (Brown) O'Brien for the past twenty-four years.Born in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Ernest V. and Ann E. (McMahon) O'Brien.Mike was the parts manager for Portland Transmission, on Smith Street, Providence, for twenty-five years, retiring in 2009. An avid sports fan, he loved the New England Patriots, and was especially proud of his Irish heritage. He served his country proudly in the United States Army, as a sharpshooter, and firing range supervisor, during the Korean War.In addition to his wife Elaine, he leaves two step-sons, Frank D. Golden and Brian C. Golden; a brother, James T. O'Brien; two sisters, Lisa A. O'Brien and Mary R. O'Brien-Egan; three grandchildren, "his precious treasurers", Brian "Little Bri", Robert "Robbie", and C J; nieces and nephews, including his special niece, Lisa Egan, Laura, and Nathan; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from Massachusetts. He was pre-deceased by his step-son, Joseph M. Golden and his nephew, Daniel Hoyt.Visiting hours will be held Saturday afternoon, from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence, with the Funeral Service to begin at 3:00 pm. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hasbro Childrens Hospital, c/o Rhode Island Hospital, 593 Eddy Street, Providence, RI 02903 in his memory will be appreciated.
