

North Providence Patricia M. (Hogan) Goodwin, 76, of Highland Avenue, died peacefully Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at home surrounded by her loving family, friends and caregivers. She was the wife of former Senator Thomas N. Goodwin. Tom and Pat were married for fifty-three years. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late William J. and Mary E. (McGrath) Hogan, she lived in the Smith Hill neighborhood for many years before moving to North Providence eighteen years ago. Pat was a genealogist for the State of Rhode Island, Department of Vital Records, for eighteen years, retiring in 1997. Upon her retirement, she, along with her daughter Maureen, hosted Perfect Beginnings Family Christian Day Care at her residence in North Providence for seven years until illness in 2006. She was a 1949 graduate of Tyler School, a 1952 graduate of Saint Xavier Academy, and attended Providence College. From 1952 to 1959, she was the acting deputy Recorder of Deeds at Providence City Hall until her mother Mary became ill. Pat was a faithful communicant of Saint Patrick Church, a member of the 1st Senatorial District Committee, Providence, and the Saint Xavier Alumnae Association. She was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan. In addition to her husband Thomas, she leaves three daughters, Senator Maryellen Goodwin, District 1, Providence, Sheila A. Connelly and her husband Paul, and Maureen P. LaRocque and her husband Jeffrey; four loving grandchildren, Marygrace Heywood, Teresa Rose, John Paul LaRocque and Liam Thomas Connelly, and a sister, Elizabeth A. Hynes. Pat's funeral will be held Tuesday, at 8:15 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 179 Academy Avenue, Providence. Graveside burial in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Monday, 3 - 8 pm.
