Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Vincent O’Connell Jr. and Mary (Hunt) O’Connell. He was the beloved husband of the late Ann E. (Izzo) Kennedy for over 50 years. He was the devoted father of Julie M. Kennedy and the late Kimberly L. Kennedy; cherished grandfather of Elizabeth Martino and Erika Cambra and her partner Derek Doucette; great-grandfather of Cameron and Lillianne Montminy; and brother of Roderick Kennedy.
Paul was a Military Police Officer for the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his service in the Army, Paul was a Rhode Island State Trooper for 25 years before retiring as a Lieutenant.
Paul was the person you could listen to for hours and he’d always have a new story to share. He cared so deeply for his family, friends, and of course his wife, Ann. He was a loving husband, father, and especially grandfather. He took on a role he wasn’t meant to, and helped raise the kids in his life to be the best versions of themselves and never batted an eye. Paul was someone you would look up to in times of hopelessness, and someone you could lean on whenever you needed a hand. He was someone who would listen and always know the right things to say. He was and forever will be our dad, our friend, and our Papa. Being without his life partner has been hard on him, but now he is at eternal peace with her - where he is meant to be, forever. “The greater the love, the greater the grief.”
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Friday, January 12th from 9:00-10:00 am in the PONTARELLI-MARINO HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Saint Rocco’s Church, 927 Atwood Avenue, Johnston.
