

South Kingstown Raymond W. Selwyn, 81, of Matunuck, passed away peacefully on October 12, surrounded by his family. Born in and raised in the Smith Hill section of Providence, he was the son of the late William J. and Florence A. (Beckett) Selwyn. He was the loving husband of Joan M. (Quirk) Selwyn for 52 wonderful years. Besides his wife he leaves behind two children, Raymond W. Selwyn, Jr. of Richmond and his wife Anna, and Colleen M. Selwyn of Providence. He was the adoring grandfather of three grandchildren, Madison, Logan, and Riley. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 - 1960. Upon exiting the army, he started his own trucking and auto salvage business, located in Providence, which is now run by his son. Ray was very active in RI politics throughout his adult life. Ray was fiercely proud of his family, friends, and Irish heritage. He had a gift for making people laugh and was always ready with a good joke or the perfect anecdote for a situation. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 8:15 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rte. 117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 128 High Street, Wakefield. Burial will be in Saint Francis Cemetery, Wakefield. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 pm. Donations to Kindred Hospice 2374 Post Road Warwick, RI 02886 in Ray's memory would be appreciated.
