

Smithfield Richard J. A'Hearn, 72, of Smithfield and Tarpon Springs, Florida, passed away at home on Saturday, August 1, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Jane C. (Fogarty) A'Hearn for the past 47 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Marcoccio) A'Hearn. Richard was a Police Officer for the Providence Police Department for 25 years before retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Providence Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge # 3, and served on the Board of Directors as well as the State of Rhode Island Fraternal Order of Police; member of the Retired Providence Police and Firefighters Association Pension Board, and was a National Delegate to the Police Officers Memorial Convention in Washington, DC for several years. He was also a member of the Sons of Irish Kings. Richard was an avid New York Giants and Boston Red Sox fan. In addition his wife Jane, he leaves three daughters, Kristen J. (William) Cody, Kathleen A. (Michael) Trask, and Kelly (Joseph) Rivera; a sister, Patricia (John) Magnone; and five loving grandchildren, Justyn, Allyson, Michael, Nathan and Caroline. He was a brother of the late Joseph A'Hearn and Barbara Moretti. The funeral will be held Thursday, at 8:45 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Burial will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Wednesday 4:00 -8:00 pm.
