Robert Joseph Pacheco, of Andover MA, died on May 26, 2023. He reluctantly succumbed to congestive heart and kidney failure after a valiant battle at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He had previously resided for many years at Longfellow Place in the West End as well as The Nautica in the Charlestown Navy Yard.
Bob was born on November 28, 1936 and grew up in Providence RI. He excelled in school, allowing him to graduate from La Salle Academy early. He then spent a gap year at Classical High School before joining the Marine Reserves. He attended Providence College and earned a bachelor’s degree in business. After a variety of interesting sales jobs, he found his true calling in the field of staffing. In the 1970’s, he landed a recruiting position at Management Recruiters in West Springfield MA which eventually became Positions Inc. He went on to manage their offices in Wellesley MA and downtown Boston.
In the 1980’s, he decided to start his own recruiting firm and opened Fairfield Whitney at 120 Water Street in Boston. Bob had a knack for finding sharp driven people to work for him. He loved mentoring his sales force, teaching them the art of negotiation and guiding them to close the deal. He experienced his greatest success and personal fulfillment during these years. Later, he merged his firm with Franklin Pierce Associates also in Boston MA.
In his heyday, Bobby Joe [as some knew him] was known to indulge in rich food, strong drinks, and fine cigars. A perfect afternoon involved driving at bullet speeds to the coast for a 3 lb. lobster. He loved to make money and spend money. His passions included following Boston sports teams, rooting on his beloved PC Friars in basketball and spending the holidays in Maui.
He is survived by his beloved third wife Janis Joy (Ottina) Pacheco with whom he had many wonderful years as well as their two Persian cats Maxwell and Brady. He was predeceased by his mother Marion Veronica (Leddy), Pacheco his father Joseph Costa Pacheco, and his two beloved aunts Eileen Leddy and May Leddy. He is also survived by 4 children - Susan Pacheco of Warwick RI, Robert Pacheco JR. of Exeter RI, Dean Pacheco of New Ipswich NH and Amy Pacheco of Somerville MA. He also leaves 3 grandsons and 2 great-grandchildren.
There will be a wake at the Russell Boyle Funeral Home at 331 Smith Street Providence RI from 11 am - 12 pm on Tuesday June 6, 2023, followed by a brief burial service at the St. Ann Cemetery Chapel in Cranston RI.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The MGH Fund at Massachusetts General Hospital or the Friars Forever Athletic Fund at Providence College.
