Rose M. (Coury) Mendonca, 86, passed away January 5, 2017. She was the daughter of the late John E. and Anna (Stevens) Coury; mother of Karen A. Mello, Donna M. Dopart-DeVita and her husband David W. DeVita, and Joseph J. Coury and his wife Diane; grandmother of 8; great-grandmother of 11; sister of the late Joseph J. and Fred P. Coury. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Rose was the first female city clerk for the City of Providence, until her retirement in 1991. She was a communicant of St. George Maronite Catholic Church and a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality.
Visitation will be held Monday 4-7 p.m. in the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the St. George Maronite Church, 1493 Cranston Street, Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
