William J. Almeida, 95, of Lincoln, Rhode Island passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026. Born in Fall River, Mass., William lived a full and hardworking life across communities he called home, including Fall River, Tiverton, Pawtucket and Rumford before spending his final years in Lincoln with his family.
William was raised by his mother, Emily (Costa) Perry and John Perry of Fall River and carried with him a lifelong work ethic and a no-nonsense, down-to-earth spirit that earned him the respect of everyone who knew him. He built a career in the auto industry working with numerous dealerships over the decades and earning many awards along the way-a testament to his dedication and character. True to form, William never slowed down and continued driving cars right up until the end of his life.
A proud veteran, William served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Oriskany.
A lover of life’s finer moments, William was never happier than when he was at the racetrack, caught up in the excitement of the horses. Ironically, his greatest “win” didn’t come from the races, but from a chance meeting at the Lincoln Greyhound Park, where he first met the love of his life, Mary Funchion. From that day forward, they were inseparable, sharing nearly 40 wonderful years together.
William is survived by his beloved partner, Mary Funchion; his children William Almeida, James Almeida and Dan Almeida and his wife Lisa and Brenda Almeida; his cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Ryan, Greg, Emily, Bethany, Luke, Joshua, Adam, Brittany, Keana, Daniel, Jr. and Steven; his brother James Perry and his sister Lillian Serpa. He was preceded in death by his son Tommy Almeida; his mother, Emily Costa Perry, who passed in 1968 and his brothers, John, Franklin and Michael Perry.
He also lovingly embraced Mary’s children, Ruben Martino, Gina Rogers, Jerry Martino and his fiancée Deborah Houghton and Stephanie Rago and her husband Zack, as his own family. He shared a particularly special bond with Mary’s granddaughter, Stephanie Rago, whose relationship with William was that of a granddaughter and grandfather in every sense- a connection that brought great joy to them both.
He was a practical man who let his actions speak for themselves. He will be deeply missed.
His funeral services will be private.
