

William H. "Bill" Hynes (Detective, P.P.D Ret.) 83, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth A. (Hogan) Hynes. They were married for over 60 years.Born in Providence, he was the son of the late James M., and Mary A. (Donelon) Hynes.Prior to retirement, he was a detective with the Providence Police Department for over 33 years. He was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge # 3. An avid golfer, he was a member of the East Greenwich Country Club for over 30 years, and was a faithful communicant of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament. He served his country proudly during World War II, with the United States Army.Besides his wife, he leaves one son, Stephen B. Hynes; two granddaughters, Elizabeth A. Wood and Sarah P. Hynes, and their mother, Patricia A. McCarthy; a daughter in law, Kristie O. Hynes; 4 great grandchildren, Colin P., Nora E., and twins, Declan W., and Deirdre P. Wood; three brothers, Francis A., Raymond G., and Charles P. Hynes; two sisters, Mary T. Eldridge and Patricia R. Kummimen. He was the father of the late William J., and Kevin H. Hynes. Bill was the brother of the late Thomas E., James M., John J. Hynes, Jr., and Gertrude A. Joyce.Bill's funeral will be held on Monday, at 8:30 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Academy Avenue, Providence. Graveside burial with military honors will follow in Saint Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours, Sunday 4-7pm.
