Born on Oct. 15, 1946, to Ben and Vera (Urioste) Trujillo, Tony grew up in Bessemer—a close-knit community where the lessons of humble beginnings instilled in him a deep sense of resilience and determination. His brothers and sisters were the bedrock of his life.
After graduating from Central High School in 1964, Tony proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Wasp, where he was part of the crew that recovered the Gemini XII astronauts upon their return to Earth. While stationed in Boston, Mass., he met and married the love of his life, Rosemary. In 1975, they returned to Pueblo with their young daughter, Tara.
Tony attended the University of Southern Colorado while working full-time as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was known on his route for his kindness—often carrying treats for children and making friends with the families he served. He championed Pueblo’s working community through 20 years of service as a union representative with the National Association of Letter Carriers.
As Rosemary balanced nursing school with her full-time job at the state hospital, Tony stepped up as the primary caregiver. Balancing his own job with the demands of running a household, he lived by the motto, “Everything in moderation.”
He regularly met his brothers, Mike and Chris, for lunch and a cold beer—a cherished tradition that kept their bond strong. He deeply missed his late brother Rocky and his sisters Theresa and Cecilia, often reflecting on the special times they shared. Family and music were Tony’s greatest joys.
Tony was known for his exceptional generosity and steadfast love. Friends and family could always count on his support. He cherished his Sunday afternoons at the movie theater with his grandchildren, Kaden and Victoria. He took immense joy in watching them grow, always the proud grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; children, Tara, Ben, and Tim; grandchildren, Kaden, Victoria, and Penelope; brothers and sisters, Christopher Trujillo, Michael Trujillo and wife Donna, Bernadette Engle; his brother-like cousin, Manuel Urioste; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Vera; siblings, Timothy and Rocky Trujillo, Cecilia Gurney, and Theresa Morales.
Tony’s warmth, love of music, and unwavering devotion to his family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the love he shared and the lives he touched.
A service to celebrate Tony’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, at T.G. McCarthy Funeral Home in Pueblo.
