Benito “Ben” Fernandez, 84, passed away Aug. 13, 2011 with family by his side. Ben was born in Trinidad, CO Aug. 28, 1926. Ben had a passion for life and his family. This earth will truly miss this angel. His strength to live is a lesson learned for all! Ben’s life, work, and journey included service in his beloved Army as a paratrooper; Colorado State trooper; retirement in 1982 as a Firefighter from Pueblo Depot Activity; and yes, a school bus driver for special needs kids later in life. He played football at Trinidad Junior State College and his athletic prowess as professional wrestler “The Ironman” in the fifties and early sixties was full of starry-eyed stories. Ben was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Margaret; his son, Martin; his parents, Benito and Aurelia; siblings, Beatrice, Sam and Alex. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy May, Cynda Secora and his sons Lloyd (Debbie) Trujillo, Ben Jr. (Angela), and Jody Fernandez. He is also survived by grand and great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law. Memorial service 10:30 am Thursday, Imperial Chapel, with inurnment to follow in Imperial Memorial Gardens.
