Betty Williams passed on June 27, 2015. Betty was born on December 14, 1933, in Princeton, West Virginia. The youngest of fourteen children, she moved to Pueblo, Colorado in 1972. Betty was a pioneer in the real estate business. She began her career in 1974, and quickly became Pueblo’s best known and most successful realtor. She was the recipient of numerous awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Realtors. She was also the first female vice president in the history of the Van Schaack Real Estate Company and a co-founder of the Women’s Council of Realtors. Most importantly, every client became a friend.
Betty was dedicated to serving the Pueblo community. She served on the board of directors for the Steel City Kiwanis for over twenty years and was a recipient of Kiwanian of the Year award. She also served on the boards of the American Red Cross, Cancer Society, Pueblo Homebuilders Association, March of Dimes, United Way, Bessmer Historical Society, National Association of Female Executives, West Plains Energy Advisory Council, Colorado Association of Realtors, National Association of Realtors, Sangre de Cristo Art Center, and the Rosemount Museum.
Betty’s greatest passion, however, was serving Jesus Christ. A member of Pueblo Christian Center for over thirty-two years, Betty dedicated herself to the spread of the Gospel. Throughout her life, she supported numerous Christian organizations including: Oral Roberts University, Billy Graham Evangelical Association, Prison Fellowship Ministries, Basic Gospel Ministries, and Bob George Ministries.
Betty is survived by Diane & Rodney West, Mark & Marguerite Steele, Brad & Jill Steele, and Monica Carruth. She took pleasure in her seven grandchildren: Stephanie West, Katie West, Collin Steele, Erin Steele, Ashley Steele, Emma Steele, and Olivia Steele. Betty also became the great-grandmother of Charleigh Tatum Berg in 2010.
There is no way an obituary can capture the essence of a person’s life. Jesus said: “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?” Betty did her best to follow that command. She will be missed.
