Dave was born April 18, 1955 in Pueblo Colorado and departed this life August 1, 2024 at the age of 69. He was the seventh of nine children born to Felix and Patsy DeHerrera, and the first born in Colorado. Dave met Diane (Gembala) at Centennial High School and they married April 4, 1975 in Pueblo when they were both 19 years old. Together they celebrated 49 years of marriage and would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in April 2025. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. His mom Patsy passed away in 2010 and his dad Felix passed away in 2014. Brother Bob (Dianne) passed away in 2010 and brother Gene passed away earlier in 2024. Dave is survived by his loving wife Diane who was by his side when he passed. To say that Dave fought hard through his muscular disease for the past 20 years would only be half true; his wife fought hard along his side every minute of every day. Dave is also survived by children Jeffrey (Dream) DeHerrera, Jarrett (KC Cullen) DeHerrera, Jenifer (Anthony) Higgins, and Jaramie DeHerrera. Six grandchildren survive Dave and cherish his memory: Emie, Violet, Samantha, Maverick, Lucas, and Nora. Surviving brothers and sisters are: Lea (Dan) Mendoza, Jo (Cam) Castillo, Carmen (Rodney)Handy, Felix (Inesa) DeHerrera, Helen (Mark) DeHerrera, and Rick (Becky) DeHerrera. Dave had an extended network of colleagues in the construction and building industry in Pueblo and throughout Colorado. He earned his contractor’s license in1978 and was the youngest person to do so at that time. Dave put his carpentry skills to work for nearly 50 years in both residential and commercial construction. Although his mobility lagged in his latter years, his mind remained sharp and allowed him to still practice in a mentoring capacity. Dave loved watching his grandchildren at the kiddie rides at City Park, eating homemade meals, and running through the backyard sprinklers. Even at the very end, Dave steadfastly attended his grandkids’ wrestling matches, soccer games, baseball games, football games, and shooting sports competitions. A private memorial service will be held for family.
