Ron was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Evelyn Jones and brothers Chuck, Al and Ger Jones “The Jones Boys”.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Cathene; son R. Wayne Jones of Beulah; daughters Brenda (Justin) Clennin of Beulah and Betsy (Austin) Clennin of Rye; grandchildren Douglas Jones (his mom Earlene Jones), Kolby and Karter Clennin and Grant, Asher, and Cortlynn Clennin; sister Pamela Jones of Parker, CO; and numerous family members.
Ron was born on June 25, 1942 in Westcliffe, CO. He was part of the first graduating class from South High School in 1960. He went on to own and operate The Sawmill/Ron Jones Lumber in Beulah. Ron logged the foothills of the Front Range from Wetmore to the south of Rye. He was known to be one of the best cat skinners and road builders around along with the title of being the best tree feller.
Ron served the community of Beulah in so many ways. He had over 55 years of dedicated service with the Beulah Valley Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Chief for many years. He also helped build the Beulah Community Center and served on the board. Ron also worked for the Beulah Water Works. His extraordinary dedication and service to the small community of Beulah will never be forgotten.
Ron was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He fished every high lake in the Sangre De Cristo mountain range except for one. The best times spent for Ron was with a fly line, .257 Weatherby rifle and his bow and arrow in hand. His love for the outdoors and camping has been passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Ron and Cathene’s greatest achievement besides their family was their log home. Ron and Cathene sawed all the material at The Sawmill, hand cutting many pieces, and together built their dream home full of love, pride and joy.
He was a member of the NRA, Florence Elks Lodge, and an avid fan of the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos and enjoyed watching golf. Ron was known for his toughness, grit and always putting in a hard day’s work. He was a weather enthusiast- watching storm clouds brew and keeping an eye on the sky.
A very special thanks to the wonderful care that he received from the Sangre De Cristo Hospice staff and a very special thank you to his nurse Chris.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sangre De Cristo Hospice in his name.
A private family service will be held at a later date. An open house in honor of Ron will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 2:00-6:00pm at his home in Beulah.
