Our fabulous Fabiola relinquished the bonds of life on this earth on January 5, 2023, to reunite with her loving family and in her loving Father’s house. John 14:2 “In my Father’s house are many mansions if [it were] not [so], I would have told you I go to prepare a place for you.” Her family that awaits her are; her husband Joe Clifford Mayo, son Dean Mayo, mother Felicitas Bachicha Lucero, father Andres Sanchez Lucero, brothers Ernesto Lucero and Benjamin Lucero, sister Virginia Luna, and sister-in-law Maria Lucero. She leaves to mourn in her absence her grandchildren Rio (Jessi) Mayo, Sabrina (Matthew) Akins and Raeana Jo Mayo; brothers Ignacio (Flor) Lucero and Fred (Debbie) Lucero; sister Lilly Lucero Sanchez; and several nieces and nephews who loved her beyond words.
Fabiola was born on October 31, 1925, in Anton Chico, New Mexico and was a descendant of the Spanish settlers who entered the Southwest in the 1600’s and whose given family names were Lucero, Sanchez, Apodaca, Duran and Bachicha. Fabiola was a beautiful girl who graduated from El Rito Normal School in Northern New Mexico, a school that fostered her love of music, poetry, and the arts, which enriched her many years of playing the piano. She enjoyed going to the opera and “dressed to the nines” throughout her life and even modeled for White & Davis. Her talent for writing was showcased in a Biblical play that she wrote, produced, and directed in Denver for her church youth group, to whom she taught catechism. She was a proud member of the National Council of Catholic Christian Women and valued her St. Joseph Parish community family.
Fabiola was kind and loving to anyone that she met. Her door was always open, and she was waiting with a smile and a listening ear. Our beautiful loving "Fabiola", "Auntie “O” and "Sissy" will be missed beyond measure. We extend a special thank you to those who provided special loving care for her, her cousins Paulita Herrera and Tammy Lucero, extended family, and close friends.
