

Fred Carillo (aka: Freddie or Dopey), 88, passed away from natural causes, in Pueblo, CO, on January 22, 2021. A memorial service will be held outdoors on February 5th at 2pm, at Imperial Gardens Cemetery, 5450 Hwy 78 West in Pueblo. Due to COVID restrictions, we are limited to 70 attendees. Fred was born in Pueblo, CO on January 25, 1932. He dropped out of school after 8th grade to enlist in the US Army, where he served in the 11th Airborne for 2 years. After his discharge, he enrolled at Trinidad Junior College to receive his G.E.D. He then joined the US Navy and served aboard the USS Silverstein for 4 years during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he worked at the Pueblo Ordinance Depot before attending Pueblo Junior College. He continued his education at Greely College and received his B.A. in Elementary Education. Fred also received a Masters of Arts from Western State College. Fred was a recruiter for CU Boulder, a Principal at Baker Elementary in Denver and retired as an elementary teacher. He and his wife, Irene, lived in Northglenn, CO, for 51 years. He loved to read, fish, camp, and travel abroad. His happy place was in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where they went every Thanksgiving holiday for 24 years. Fred is survived by his wife, Irene Carillo. Children: Larry, Jim (Lisa), Chuck (Karen), Barbara (Kevin) & Victor (Terry). Grand Children: Eric, Maddison, James, Renee, Guiliano, Andrew, Katie, Kelly, Mathew, Timothy, & Daryl. Great Grand Children: Kiera, Madelyn, Remy, Ruby, William, Cayden, Asher, Emery, Brooklyn & Jason. Fred is preceded in death by his mother, Rose (Carillo) Trujillo, father Albert Carillo, step-father Fabian Trujillo, sister Annette Carillo, and son Frank Carillo. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking to please register to participate in, or donate to, the “2021 Walk to End Alzheimer’s,” that will take place in Pueblo on 9/18/21.
