Gary Smith, Sr, 82, of Pueblo, Colorado, passed away on October 10, 2023. He was born on April 24, 1941, in Missouri. Rex, also known as Gary Rex Smith, Sr., was a kind and giving individual with a big heart who cherished his family and had a deep passion for fishing, camping and hunting.
Rex proudly served in the US Air Force, demonstrating his commitment and dedication to his country. Following his military service, he pursued a career as a heavy equipment operator, showcasing his skills and expertise in the field.
In his free time, Rex enjoyed indulging in his hobbies of hunting, fishing, camping, and bowhunting. Later in life, he discovered the joy of hang gliding where he earned the nickname of “T-Rex.” These activities allowed him to immerse himself in nature and find solace in the great outdoors.
Rex is survived by his loving wife Nita Smith of 52 years, his son Gary (Cameron) Smith, his daughter Renee (Rick) Thompson, his son Rick (Linda) Cochran, and his son Rodney (Stephanie) Cochran. Rex had many grandchildren and great grandchildren along with nieces, nephews and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his father Clyde Smith and his mother Rebia Smith.
In accordance with Rex’s wishes, cremation has taken place. No services will be held. The Imperial Funeral Home in Pueblo, Colorado, is assisting the family during this difficult time.
Rex Smith will be remembered for his kind-hearted nature, his love for his family, and his passion for outdoor activities. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
