He was born to George Thaddeus Martin & Beulah Winnie Martin (Blagg) in Calumet, Oklahoma on July 5th, 1928. They moved to Pueblo, Colorado in 1930 where he was raised and graduated from Central High School in 1947. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Roscover, in 1949 and had four children. He was married 42 years until her passing, later marrying Naomi West.
He spent his working career with the Pueblo Fire Department, retiring as a Captain in 1979, referred to as “Howdy” by those close to him on the team. He worked as a mechanic at Grand Rental, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t keep running. George was best known for helping others. He was always present to lend a hand and could be counted upon when anyone was in need. He was a dedicated leader in the Boy Scouts of America, and was the recipient of numerous awards, including the organizations highest leadership award, the “Silver Beaver”. George was known for taking on any challenge. When he didn’t know how to do something, he was undeterred. Seems he could solve, or do, anything. He loved doing crossword puzzles and word games. He was a member of Good Sam, and part of Pueblo Search and Rescue. He enjoyed square dancing and touched many lives in the community. He loved his family and made a significant positive impact on his children, grandchildren and great grand children’s lives.
He is survived by a daughter Carol Lile (Louis) of Pueblo, sons George Martin Jr. (Helen) of Denver, and Thaddeus Martin of Pueblo; grandchildren Nick (Kelli) Martin, Dylan (Nicolle) Lile, Brittany (Dan) Murphy, Chris (Holly) Martin, Kayla Martin, Trevor (Charlotte) Lile; and great-grandchildren Mason, Parker, Liam, Gavin, Max, Eli, Mackenzie, Cameron, Morgyn, Maddie, Brayden, and Hunter.
