Glen Dean Heaston was born on November 6, 1958 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to his parents, Harold & Beverly (Emory) Heaston. He is their oldest son. He was a delightful little boy that loved to be with his Dad doing whatever he saw him doing. It became evident early in his life that he was a very bright little boy who was of a quiet nature but always observing and aware of his surroundings.
After moves to Broomfield, Colorado, Fremont, California, his academic acumen displayed itself in stellar grades throughout school. He graduated in 1976 from Irvington High School 5th in his class. Throughout his junior high school and into high school he wanted to go to the Air Force Academy and he pursued that dream with full attention. His applications to Congressmen and Senators granted him the chance to fulfill that dream with appointments to West Point, Annapolis & the Air Force Academy. He was delighted! In the summer of 1976 he left home, just 17 years of age to go to the Air Force Academy.
When Glen was younger, his personality was one of teasing his siblings, sometimes mercilessly. He loved his family and relished times together. The four of them, Glen, Sherri, Lori & Greg, spent time in their younger years enjoying the outdoors, eating out, going to church activities and school participation of plays, music & sports. When Glen was in high school, he was a part of the school golf team. In one match he made a hole in one! He also enjoyed being a wrestler and even though his mother couldn’t stand seeing him pinned to the floor, he enjoyed and did well at it.
Glen took pleasure in being part of any family gatherings. He enjoyed anytime he was able to spend a few days with his cousins, Rod & Russell West on their family farm in eastern Colorado. Of course, they had some episodes that the parents were not to be informed of until absolutely necessary. By the time the parents knew it was all over and they were safe, in spite of themselves.
During his time at the Air Force Academy he was able to renew a close relationship with his Grandad Truman Heaston. They hunted rabbits and whatever else on Grandad’s ranch near Calhan. They shared much together that brought richness of love and time to both of them.
In 1978, Glen married his first wife, Thea Westbrook.. Their daughter, Daun Nicole was born on May 16th, 1979, a beautiful dark haired little bundle of joy. In 1981, their second daughter, Leslyn Rene was born on July 17th. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. Such a beautiful baby girl to join her big sister.
When that marriage ended, he was working at IBM in Longmont, Colorado and at the church met his 2nd wife, Mindy Cochran. To that union was born his one and only son, Gregory Heaston. He was born the 11th of February, 1987. He and his Dad were buddies. They enjoyed sports together, especially wrestling. Glen had wrestled in High School and was good at it. In the Academy he coached an intramural team, being to expert to be a wrestler on the team. Gregory loved wrestling too and so they joined a team for his age of 7 to 10. It was always a triumphant moment when Gregory succeeded in defeating his opponent, which he did often.
Glen’s children blessed him with grandchildren. Daun had two, a boy named Josh and a daughter named Madeline. They were both born in October, Josh on the 21st, 2006. A handsome dark curly headed boy who loves sports as well and is the star goalie for a hockey team he belongs to in his area In California where they live. Madeline was born the 18th of October 2009. She is a blonde beauty with much love for life and creativity. Not to be outdone she belongs to a hockey team and is also the very successful goalie.
Glen’s two other grandchildren were born to Gregory and Danielle. Blake is the spitting image of his father and growing to be such a handsome young boy. He was born the 27th of April 2015. Rylin, his little sister, was born the 3rd of August 2016. She has an infectious personality that shows through her beauty. At the age of five she captivates your heart.
In 2015, Glen came to live with his parents. He was great company for them both. They spent many hours enjoying Nascar with the special driver being Jeff Gordon for all three of them. When Jeff retired they passed their loyalties to Chase Elliott. After his Dad, Harold Heaston’s passing on 14th December 2019, Glen became a confidant, advisor, prayer partner and all a son could be to his mother.
Glen passed away on the morning of May 17th, 2022 very suddenly. He will be missed by all that loved him and those that were beginning to know him as a faithful son and faithful support to his mother.
Who knows why things like this happen, but we do know that he is with the Lord having another grand reunion with family members who have preceded in death: His paternal grandparents, Truman & Irene (Tripp) Heaston. His maternal grandparents, Harley & Elsie (Edson) Emory. His brother stillborn October 27th 1961. His beloved father, Harold Heaston.
Numerous family members remain who all have loved him and will miss him. It is good to be able to say to Glen today, “Knowing what we know about heaven, believing that you’re all the way home. Knowing that you’re somewhere better is all we need to let you go. Knowing what we know about heaven, we know you’re somewhere where life and love never ends”.
