

Obituary for Ivan D. Trapp Ivan D. Trapp, born February 27, 1933, in Hopkins County, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026. Ivan was the son of Dewitt Talmage Trapp and Edna May Mintor. He grew up alongside his brothers and sisters: Billy Pat Trapp, R.S. Trapp, Roene Morgan, Wyatt Trapp, and Patsy Williamson.
He is survived by his beloved sister and friend Patsy. He married Mary Lou Trapp on Mar 27, 1965 with whom he shared many years of life and family. Together they raised a large and loving family. Ivan was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Pat Trapp. Ivan is survived by his children: Colonel Michael Trapp and his wife Dr. Kristi, Christy Barton and partner Butch, Kim Robb and partner Ray, Kelly Thomas and her husband Jeffrey, Jeffrey Trapp and his wife Angela, and Kevin Trapp and his wife Margette, along with 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend whose steady presence and quiet wisdom shaped generations of his family. One of his nephews said of him: “It is rare to have an uncle that makes such an impact on you like your father did. He modeled Godly masculinity, joy, and kindness. He was a gentle giant.” Ivan proudly served his country in the United States Army from April 1953 to April 1955. He served as a communications specialist and attained the rank of Corporal. Following his military service, Ivan built a long and respected career in communications technology, working as an telecommunications installer for Western Electric, AT&T Technologies, and Northern Telecom. A man of deep faith, Ivan was an active and devoted member of the Southwest Church of Christ in Pueblo, Colorado, where he found community, purpose, and fellowship. Ivan and MaryLou went on three mission trips with the church to Ecuador, Peru, and New Mexico.
Ivan was also a Master Gardener. He and MaryLou transformed their acres of land on the St. Charles Mesa into a thriving garden that included vineyards, fishponds, and an extraordinary variety of fruit, nut, and ornamental trees. His passion for horticulture extended beyond his own land—he volunteered with the Pueblo County Extension Service, generously helping aspiring gardeners and horticulturists develop their skills. He instilled in his children, nieces, and nephews a deep love of the outdoors and God’s creation. Many cherished memories were made exploring the Rocky Mountains, with countless weekends spent together as a family, especially in Phantom Canyon.
Funeral services will be led by Gary Aragon at the Southwest Church of Christ in Pueblo,Colorado at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9th, 2025.
Colonel Trapp will offer a eulogy with scripture reading and prayer by his son Kevin and beloved nephew Glenn Newell, Minister of the Clinton Church of Christ in Clinton, Mississippi.
A family viewing and graveside ceremony will take place on January 14, 2026.
Pallbearers will be his sons, Colonel Michael Trapp, Jeffrey Trapp, and Kevin Trapp, and his nephew, Glenn Newell.
Ivan Trapp will be remembered for his service, his faith, his generosity, and the enduring love he gave to his family and community.
A graveside service will be held at Imperial Memorial Gardens, located at 5450 Highway 78 West, Pueblo, CO 81005, United States. The service is scheduled for January 14, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
