John Thomas Hudson, 93, passed away August 15, 2015. He was born November 10, 1921, in New Castle, Indiana of Ralph Justus and Nellie Agnes (Payne) Hudson. He attended schools in New Castle, IN. John served in U.S Air Force during WWII. After the war, he married Helen Herberger. He attended Indiana University, then Ball State University where he received his Bachelor and Master’s Degrees. He moved to Falls City, Nebraska, to begin teaching. After three years, he moved to Pueblo to teach as a speech therapist for District 60. He also taught extension classes for Western State College, chiefly Colorado History, which he enjoyed. Being a strong believer in education, he worked in many capacities for PEA, CEA and NEA, along with providing scholarships for worthy students, often anonymously. After his children reached school age, he moved to a rural area so they could benefit from 4-H programs. He actively participated in many 4-H programs through the years. The family moved to a ranch near Beulah, and established a well-recognized purebred Hereford cattle herd. After losing a leg in a ranch accident, he retired from teaching. When age compelled, he donated the ranch to a non-profit corporation formed from local 4-H and the Rocky Mountain Farmers Union Foundation. John is survived by his wife, Helen, of nearly 70 years; and children, Gloria (Gary) Powell of Lima, OH, and David (Rhea) of Pueblo; and one grandson. Also survived by a special family Gary, Mary, Michael and Laura Martino of Pueblo. A Memorial Service is scheduled at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2015, in the Villa Pueblo Towers Penthouse.
