Surrounded by his loved ones, John Howard Long, age 84, of Pueblo, Colorado, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, October 10, 2025.
John was born in Denver, Colorado, on June 25, 1941, to Garland and Barbara Long. He grew up in Pueblo and enjoyed a successful career with Rainbo Bakery, where he dedicated over 50 years of service.
On June 25, 1960, John married the love of his life, Shonnie Hathaway. Together they shared 65 wonderful years and built a beautiful family that includes three sons, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
John will be remembered for his selfless love and his unwavering willingness to help anyone in need. He would do anything for his family and, through the years, proudly wore many hats for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—including coach, scout leader, and steadfast supporter.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Shonnie; sons Brent (Susann) Long, Darren (Gina) Long, and Kevin (Stephanie) Long; daughter-in-law Judy Long; grandchildren Stacie (Schad) Snell, Kurt (Chelsi) Long, Correy (Cori) Long, Cody Long, Lauren (Carl Chavez) Long, and Lanae (Ryan) Harney; and great-grandchildren Skylar and Sydnee Snell, Haddon and Hudson Harney, and Rowan Long. He is also survived by his sister, Myra Nicklas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Barbara Long; his in-laws, George and Wilma Hathaway; and his siblings, Harvey Long and Shirley Morgan.
