She was born in Pueblo, Colorado on August 24, 1954, daughter of the late Lloyd and Eunice Schmidt. She is survived by her daughter Misty Bellino and son-in-law Max Bellino. She was most proud of and survived by her 4 beautiful grandchildren: Mickie, Dominick, Delaney and Jaimie. She is also survived by her three siblings and their wonderful spouses, Kathy (Jim Ballas), Dave (Donna Schmidt), and Marilyn (Darren Heese). She is also survived by her nieces and her nephew. Karen will be missed by many old friends she made in this life and new friends she made at her stay in hospice.
There are many things to write about Karen and her accomplishments in this life, but the most important of these is her love for Jesus. Those of you that knew her well knew that she lived in chronic pain most of her life, and through her journey she trusted and followed her faith. Her strength and faith grew stronger even though her pain increased over the years. Karen passed in the loving care of hospice with an unexpected diagnosis, and during her time there she still continued to share the love of Christ to all that spoke with her. During her stay at Hospice House she wrote lyrics to a song for her grandchildren and family, with the help of the Hospice Music therapist, had placed on a CD. She had it given to us after her passing. Karen called this gift her “Legacy Song.” Though the song is personal, the chorus and the last verse speaks volumes of who she was and what Legacy she not only left her family but the example she left for all on this earth.
Legacy Song Chorus
Follow after the Lord with all your hearts and lives
Love one another, and always be kind
Be gentle and compassionate
In everything that you do
For the love you come from will always follow you
I pray that you are grounded in your faith
That nothing makes you stray
That you spread His light and love
But most of all that the Lord teaches you to Pray.
A small graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday June 19, 2020
