Colorado on October 3, 2024. He was born in Portland, Oregon to Lawrence and Lucy
Bateman and was predeceased by his brother, David Bateman.
He began his Civil Service career managing the military portion of the Tacoma/
McChord Air Force base during the Vietnam era. He spent 37 years working for the Air
Force with time in Washington, D.C. for the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Betty, of 40 years. They were both fortunate to
retire early and spent many years traveling in their RV. One of his biggest passions in
life was fishing, especially in the Pacific Northwest, i.e. La Push, Washington, and
Nehalem, Oregon. He enjoyed cooking and made the best spaghetti sauce and corned
beef and cabbage! He enjoyed spending time with his many friends playing golf and
participating in football pools which he would win more often than not.
He loved our blended family. He had three children with his first wife Sherry who
passed away in 1978 - Bret (Coleen) Bateman, Brenda (Bill) Velarde and Lana Bateman
- stepdaughters Diane Johnson and Sandra Cirbo (deceased). Grandchildren Brianne
(Marc) Jones, Sherry (Jared) Thompson, Mallory (Kyle) Swanson, William Velarde, Erika
(Matt) Clark and Julia Velarde. Great grandchildren Knox and Tucker Jones, Henley
Thompson, Kooper, Macyn and Knox Swanson, Scarlett, Rylee, Mackenzee and Kellen
Clark. He had many fond memories of spending time with his two nephews David
(Laura) Bateman and Jim Bateman.
We loved him dearly and will miss him every day.
