

On October 8th, 2023 at 9:55 am Manuel Augustine Martinez left this Earth to be with his family. He was the last surviving member at the incredible age of 101. He is preceded in death by his parents, Toribio and Felicita Martinez; sisters Becky, Clorinda, Rose, Mary, & Josie.
Finally, his mother, Felicita has all her children with her in heaven.
Survived by his children; son, Wayne, daughter-in-law Paula; daughters, Beverly Martinez, Shirley Trujillo, Alice Etherton; son in law, Don Etherton; As well as numerous nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born in Clayton New Mexico, January 1, 1922 he lived a full life all of his 101 years, 10 months, 8 days. Manuel started his adult life in the U.S. Army Air Corps 1942-1946 WWII, Philippines. Eventually being trained in one of the first Army units to enter Japan. Leaving the service with the rank of SGT Major, he entered college at Adams State in Alamosa earning a Bachelor's of Arts and becoming an educator. He began his career teaching at Sierra Granda in the San Luis Valley, eventually moving to Pueblo, Colorado where he began teaching at Pueblo County High School. Summers were spent in school at Western State College (now a university) earning his Masters of Arts and Type D credentials, and ending his career as Principal at Avondale Elementary School. He and his wife, Sara (Sarano) Martinez moved to Westcliff, Colorado for her health and lived there until her passing in February of 2017. He then lived with his son Wayne and daughter in law Paula. We will miss him deeply.
